A visit to Pashim Basti Janajati ME School

A visit was made by the Principal of DIET, Sivasagar, Sonari Mr. Biman Ch. Dutta, as an honoured guest to Paschim Basti Janajati M. E. School under Khelua Education Block of Sivasagar district on 05/03/2025. The invitation was made by the Head Master of the school, Mr. Robin Phukan on the occasion of farewell session and Sishu Mela for the outgoing students of Class VIII of the school. The Principal of the institute, Mr. Biman Ch. Dutta, inaugurated the farewell session ; a Sishu Mela and a School Readiness Camp held there. It is noteworthy to mention here that the entire farewell session was presided over by the students. Paschim Basti Janajati M. E. School, although located in a remote area, is a unique school, where the Headmaster and the teachers have inculcated democratic norms and values in the students splendidly. The latest example of this fact can be seen in the leadership quality showcased in the farewell event by the students in the school. There are a total number of 175 students in the school belonging to different communities as : Garo; Tea Tribe and Muslim community. There are nine numbers of teaching staff in the school. The school has many up-to-date features built by the school community like :- a well equipped ICT lab; a mini museum; a well stocked library managed by the students; a medicinal plant laden garden; a beautiful TLM room and an Isolation room for medical purpose. The school has also established amicable relationship with other schools of the district as friendship schools. The NGO - 'Pratham', is also working actively in the school.

The school is a role model in the manifestation of ethical values and dignity of labour among the students ; the school community is to be accoladed exceptionally in this regard.
