COLLABORATION FOR TAI LANGUAGE PROMOTION BY DIET CHARAI DEO

DIET Charaideo has always been committed to collaborating with various government institutions and non-governmental organizations to promote education as a whole. Such collaborations form an integral part of the institute’s extended educational activities and community engagement initiatives.

Purbanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha, one of the leading literary organizations of Upper Assam, approached the Principal of DIET Charaideo, Mr. Biman Chandra Dutta, with a proposal to orient prospective D.El.Ed. course aspirants, particularly youths from the Ahom community, to promote and teach the Tai language in schools where it may be offered as an optional subject.

In this regard, Mr. Atul Phukon, President of Purbanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha, approached the Director of SCERT, Assam, seeking support for the initiative. Subsequently, the state-level apex body of teacher education recommended that the organization approach DIET Charaideo for the necessary academic support.

Accordingly, Mr. Netra Gogoi, Senior Lecturer, and Mr. Bhaskar Jyoti Das, Lecturer, of DIET Charaideo, was entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the orientation programme on 18 and 19 June 2026. The two-day residential training programme was organized at the Tai Bhasa Academy, located within the campus of the headquarters of the Mohan-Deodhai-Bailung Sanmilon at Patsaku.

Approximately 40 participants from the Ahom community representing Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, and Charaideo districts participated in the programme. The initiative aimed to encourage interested youths to engage in Tai language education and contribute to its promotion and preservation through school education.

DIET Charaideo remains committed to extending similar academic support and collaborating with other organizations in the future, wherever feasible. Such initiatives may be undertaken upon receipt of formal requests submitted to the Head of the Institute through the prescribed procedure and proper channel, subject to institutional approval and the availability of resources.
