BHASHA GAURAV XAPTAH CELEBRATION
As per the directive of the Government of Assam, "Bhasha Gaurav Xaptah" was celebrated in a grand manner from 3rd to 9th November 2024 at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Sivasagar, along with its ten Lab Schools.
The week-long celebration commenced with a speech on classical languages by the Principal, Mr. Biman Chandra Dutta, who officially inaugurated the programme. He extended heartfelt congratulations to everyone on the recognition of the Assamese language as a classical language.
In line with the theme of Bhasha Gaurav Xaptah, various events were organized at the institute, including recitations and readings of Assamese poetry, lectures on the Assamese language, and discussions on pre-Shankari era poets and their literary contributions. Additionally, there were performances of Jyoti Sangeet, Rabha Sangeet, and Bhupendra Sangeet, as well as plays, modern dance, tea tribe dance, Bihu dance, thematic processions based on the Assamese language, and quiz competitions.
The celebrations at the institute were supervised by Senior Lecturers Mrs. Rupti Bora and Mrs. Runima Saikia Dutta.
The Lab Schools also actively participated by hosting a diverse range of engaging activities, including:
- Word games and correct usage of Assamese language
- Storytelling through pictures
- Reading circles focused on Assamese children’s literature
- Story narration and self-composed poetry writing
- Quizzes on the Assamese language
- Storytelling using ICT tools
- Poem recitations and readings
- Extempore speeches and word wall creation
- On-the-spot essay writing and drawing competitions
- Assamese spelling contests and multilingual book reading
- News reading competitions
- Dialect exchange programmes, folk song performances, and plays
The celebration served as a vibrant platform to honour and promote the richness of the Assamese language and its cultural heritage among trainees and school children alike.
