Book Release Ceremony – Ganit aru Ganitara Sote (গণিত আৰু গণিতৰ স'তে)

A book release ceremony was organized at DIET Sivasagar, Sonari, on 23rd September 2024. The book Ganit aru Ganitara Sote (গণিত আৰু গণিতৰ স'তে), edited by Ms. Deepa Rani Gogoi, Senior Lecturer at the institute, was released by Dr. Gopal Chandra Hazarika, Retired Professor, Department of Mathematics, Dibrugarh University.

The book is based on a series of interviews titled Our Mathematician, Our Inspiration, conducted from 8th March to 26th April 2024 with eminent personalities from the field of Mathematics in Assam.

Objectives of the Initiative

1. To introduce renowned mathematicians of Assam to a wider audience.
2. To familiarize teacher trainees and society with the contributions of eminent mathematicians to the field of Mathematics.
3. To enable teacher trainees to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts at the primary level.
4. To promote interest in Mathematics and encourage scientific thinking among teacher trainees.
5. To highlight the relevance of Mathematics in everyday life and strengthen the pedagogical understanding of Mathematics teaching and learning.

The programme was presided over by Mr. Biman Chandra Dutta, Principal of the institute, while the ceremonial lamp was lit by the distinguished guest, Dr. Gopal Chandra Hazarika. Ms. Deepa Rani Gogoi explained the objectives of the programme and shared insights into the process of compiling the book.

In his address, the Principal expressed his hope that the book would provide valuable insights into the teaching and learning of Mathematics for teachers and students. Dr. Hazarika encouraged students to develop a scientific outlook and engage in critical thinking. He also emphasized that Mathematics is intrinsically connected with our everyday lives and that it is impossible to function without it.

All those present appreciated the institute's innovative initiative. The book release ceremony concluded successfully in the presence of the academic officers, staff members, and trainees of the institute.
