World Environment Day Observed at DIET Charaideo

World Environment Day was observed with great enthusiasm at DIET Charaideo on 5th June 2026. The programme was presided over by Shri Biman Chandra Dutta, Principal, DIET Charaideo, and was coordinated by Mrs. Dreamly Dutta, Lecturer, DIET Charaideo. The programme was graced by retired Professor Shyama Prasad Biswas, Department of Life Science, Dibrugarh University, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished guests included Dr. Neha Yadav, District Commissioner, Charaideo, along with Principals and Senior Lecturers from various DIETs of Assam. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Shri Biman Chandra Dutta, followed by a melodious chorus presented by the D.El.Ed. trainees. The observance focused on the importance of environmental conservation, ecological responsibility, and the adoption of sustainable practices in everyday life. In his presidential address, Shri Biman Chandra Dutta emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility and encouraged all stakeholders to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives. In his keynote address, Professor Shyama Prasad Biswas highlighted the need for conservation of aquatic ecosystems, particularly the protection and preservation of local fish species. He stressed the ecological significance of indigenous aquatic biodiversity and called for collective efforts to safeguard water resources for future generations. Dr. Neha Yadav, District Commissioner, Charaideo, spoke extensively on the challenges posed by global warming and emphasized the urgent need for energy conservation. She encouraged the participants to adopt eco-friendly practices and actively contribute towards environmental protection and sustainable living. A PowerPoint presentation showcasing the various academic, training, and outreach activities undertaken by DIET Charaideo during the year was presented before the gathering by Senior Lecturers Mrs. Deepa Rani Gogoi and Mrs. Aparajita Kaushik. The invited guests from various DIETs of Assam also delivered insightful speeches on environmental sustainability, conservation practices, and the important role of educational institutions in promoting environmental awareness among students and the wider community. Following the formal programme, the guests visited a photographic exhibition organized on the theme “Nature.” The exhibition featured captivating photographs contributed by faculty members and D.El.Ed. trainees of DIET Charaideo, reflecting the beauty, diversity, and richness of the natural world. As part of the observance, saplings were planted on the DIET campus by the Chief Guest, Principal, faculty members, invited guests, and other participants. The plantation activity symbolized their collective commitment towards environmental protection, conservation, and sustainable development. The programme served as a meaningful platform for strengthening environmental awareness and encouraging responsible action towards the protection and preservation of nature for future generations.
