FOOD MELA 2026: PROMOTING EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING AND CULTURAL HERITAGE AT DIET CHARAIDEO

With the aim of promoting holistic learning, a Food Mela was successfully organized at DIET, Charaideo on 30/01/2026. The event was thoughtfully aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes experiential learning, cultural rootedness, and skill development. The mela provided a platform for participants to showcase traditional and local food items, thereby fostering an understanding of Assam’s rich culinary heritage and indigenous knowledge systems. Through hands-on participation, learners developed essential life skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity and entrepreneurial awareness. The activity reflected NEP 2020’s focus on learning beyond the classroom, integrating academic knowledge with real-life experiences. Such initiatives play a vital role in preparing future teachers to adopt innovative, learner-centred pedagogical practices. The program was coordinated by Mrs Smiti Rekha Chetia of Work Education Department. The judges of this competition were Sr.Lecturer Runima Saikia, Deepa Rani Gogoi, Dr. Madhumita Chetia. A certificate of appreciation was provided from the institution to the best performers.
